Medicine Sovereignty

Similar to food security and justice, medicine sovereignty aims to reclaim plant medicine knowledge that has been historically destroyed by colonization, and more specifically by the colonization of healthcare. We are actively learning herbal medicine, from southeastern Indigenous mentors, that we are bringing back to our community. Angie’s mother was an herbalist, grew up understanding some herbal medicines, and has been a student of formal clinal herbalism training since 2019.

We strive to learn the medicinal qualities of the plant medicine that is growing here at Hummingbird Springs, as well as to bring in native medicinal plants that have been removed, or over-harvested, from the land. We are sharing that knowledge with the broader community, as well as providing herbal medicine and herbal consultations to community.
