Indigenous Food Forest Photo Blog

At Hummingbird Springs Farm, we are converting a 120 year old monoculture farm into an Indigenous Food Forest. On February 18 and 19, 2022 we planted over 1400 native food and medicinal bare root saplings at Hummingbird Springs. We will update this page periodically with photos of the trees and the farm so that you can watch their progress!

We realized that taking monthly photos of trees became boring for both you, and us rather quickly. We decided that this part of our webpagecould become like a photo blog, if you will..

In May, we rescued two wild burrows from the Wild Burrow project, through the Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. These beautiful girls were born in the wild in New Mexico, and were captured by the National Forestry Service. They are sisters, 3 and 4 years of age, and named Sally and Tally.

We also have begun to raise Nubian goats! Pictured here are Rose, Lavender, and Chestnut. Be sure to follow our Instagram to see more of all of their adventures!

After 23 years as a nurse, Angie decided to leave nursing, and accepted a position as the Southeastern Technical Assistance Specialist with the Intertribal Agriculture Council.

Over the last 23 years, healthcare has become more about profits than people, and that’s not where our soul, spirit , or morals lie. While this is a huge and scary transition, we are all in.

Intertribal Agriculture Council's (IAC) mission is to pursue and promote the conservation, development, and sustainable use of agricultural resources for the betterment of our people.

We were approved for the High Tunnel program through USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality incentive Program. Once again, our community came through and helped us to build the high tunnel. What an amazing display of community!

Febuary 2024

We were approved to become grower’s for the Seed Saver’s exchange Adapt Seed Trials! We will be growing tomatillos, cherry tomatoes, sorghum, and mustard greens!

April 2024

This was the second year that Hummingbird Springs was asked to help grow plant babies for the amazing Fountain Heights Farms , and the first year that we were also asked to grow for Birmingham Earth Coalition.

We were invited to their Earth Day plant giveaway, and seed swap, where they were able to give away some of the plant babies we grew for them this spring!

We had the sweetest time. It was so beautiful to see so much community care in action, especially during these difficult times. They even had a middle school jazz band!

We are so proud to be able to be a part of their extended community!

July 2024

We hosted a natural beekeeping honey harvest! This was the first time we were able to harvest honey from our very own bees here at Hummingbird Springs!

We acquired the future baby daddy to our herd! Everyone meet the buckling, Muscadine, coming from Muscadine Creek Farms in Titus, Alabama.
